The big news here....

Thursday was a good day in terms of training but it ended on a bad note as I got into a pretty significant car accident. Overall, I am fine. I have some cuts and bruises but nothing too bad. I am certainly sore but the soreness will go away (especially after the 11 hours of sleep I got last night and the rest day I will have today). I was planning to do the club race today but after a mellow ride yesterday and a brief run to test the body it was obvious that it was a no go...my whole right side is very tight and my hip is pretty bruised up (mostly from the seatbelt actually). Plus, coach Reto advised taking some time off to let my body heal so that my training isn't impacted next week when I start my two week bike focus.
My poor truck has seen better days and will likely be a total loss. Ahhh, the good'ol ford ranger...been around since I was in high school, it was my first vehicle, and when I left my corporate life in pursuit of my dreams the ranger seemed to be the natural choice (or maybe the only choice but we will call it the natural choice) =) The ranger has certainly been on some adventures!
I hate when these things happen b/c they are such a pain to deal with but, at the end of the day, I am just happy to be alive. It could have been much worse and, honestly, if I wasn't an athlete that is relatively fit and strong I am sure the injuries would have been more significant. Looking back at the incident serves as a friendly reminder that we only live once so we better make everyday count! In a split second it can all be over...being alive and well is truly priceless.
Have fun out there and be safe!

Been there, done that...twice! I'm relieved that you're OK. It sucks when your "old friend" of a truck gets totalled.
